Foxconn Chairman Young Liu Explores Investment Opportunities in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, August 16, 2024 – Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn is eyeing potential investments in Telangana, with plans to expand its global footprint in India.

During a meeting held in New Delhi on Friday, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu met with Telangana Chief Minister Sri Revanth Reddy Garu and expressed keen interest in exploring investment opportunities in Hyderabad.

Liu, who is leading Foxconn’s global strategy to diversify its manufacturing base, praised Hyderabad’s potential for expansion across multiple sectors. 

He emphasized that the city is well-positioned to experience significant growth, particularly in the industrial and service sectors, which aligns with Foxconn’s own strategic interests.

The meeting, which also involved key officials from both the Telangana government and Foxconn, was a pivotal moment in the ongoing discussions about Foxconn’s entry into the Telangana market. 

Young Liu confirmed that he would soon visit Hyderabad with his team to evaluate the investment landscape and identify potential areas for collaboration.

Hyderabad’s Growth Potential

During the discussions, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighted the unique advantages that Hyderabad offers to global investors. He outlined the city’s rich historical significance and its evolution into a thriving industrial hub. 

The Chief Minister provided an overview of the phase-wise development of three key cities within Hyderabad, which have been instrumental in the city’s sustained growth over the last 430 years.

Looking to the future, the Chief Minister detailed plans for the development of a Fourth City within Hyderabad. This ambitious project is set to drive multifaceted growth across various sectors, including education, life sciences, medicine, sports, electronics, electrical industries, and skill development. 

The Fourth City is designed to be a beacon of innovation and industry, attracting both domestic and international investors.

A cornerstone of the Fourth City project is the establishment of the Young India Skill University on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The Chief Minister underscored the importance of this institution in equipping the youth with the skills needed to thrive in modern industries. 

The university’s curriculum is being shaped by some of India’s leading industrialists, ensuring that it meets the evolving needs of the global market. 

Notably, Anand Mahindra has been appointed as the Chairman of Skill University, with Srinivasa Raju serving as Vice Chairman, reflecting the high level of expertise and leadership driving the project.

Pro-Industrial Policies and Infrastructure

The Chief Minister also emphasized Hyderabad’s robust infrastructure, including the state-of-the-art International Airport, the Outer Ring Road (ORR), and the upcoming Regional Ring Road (RRR). 

These infrastructural developments are key components of the city’s appeal as an investment destination, offering seamless connectivity and logistical advantages.

Revanth Reddy assured the Foxconn delegation of the Telangana government’s full support in facilitating the establishment of their manufacturing units in the Fourth City. 

He highlighted the government’s commitment to providing all necessary permits and incentives to make Hyderabad an attractive and competitive destination for global companies like Foxconn.

State IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu also played a crucial role in the discussions, providing insights into the Telangana government’s pro-industrial policies. 

He briefed Young Liu on the various incentives available to investors, as well as the government’s active role in fostering international collaborations to boost industrial development. 

Sridhar Babu also shared details of the recent agreements and discussions led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy during his visits to the USA and South Korea, which are part of the state’s broader strategy to attract global investments.

Foxconn’s Positive Response

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with Young Liu expressing his admiration for Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s vision and the state’s pro-industrial policies. 

Liu noted that Foxconn is highly impressed with the opportunities that Hyderabad presents, particularly in the context of the Fourth City project. 

He assured the Telangana government that Foxconn is committed to exploring ways to contribute to the state’s industrial growth.

The visit by Young Liu and his team to Hyderabad is expected to further solidify the relationship between Foxconn and the Telangana government, paving the way for significant investments in the near future. 

With its strategic location, supportive government policies, and a clear vision for the future, Hyderabad is poised to become a key player in India’s industrial landscape, attracting global giants like Foxconn to its shores.

As both parties look forward to the upcoming visit, the discussions mark a significant step towards realizing the full potential of Hyderabad as a global industrial hub. 

The collaboration between Foxconn and the Telangana government is set to create new opportunities for growth and development, benefiting not just the state but also the wider Indian economy.
