Telangana CM Announces Metro Connectivity for the Proposed "Fourth City"

Hyderabad Metro Rail on Elevated Tracks – Metro Connectivity to Proposed Fourth City of Telangana Announced.

Hyderabad, August 17, 2024 – In a significant move aimed at boosting the infrastructure of Telangana, Chief Minister Sri Revanth Reddy Garu has announced the inclusion of metro connectivity for the proposed “Fourth City” at Mucherla.

The announcement was made by N.V.S. Reddy, Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail, during the Independence Day celebrations at Metro Bhavan on August 15, 2024.

The Fourth City, which is set to follow Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Cyberabad in the state’s urban expansion plan, is envisioned as a hub for young India. The Telangana Government’s special purpose vehicle, which has been instrumental in overseeing the construction of the metro rail network in the capital region, will now prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the metro connectivity in the new city.

Metro Connectivity: A Game Changer for the Fourth City

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy emphasized that the Fourth City is a key component of Telangana’s future growth strategy. The inclusion of metro connectivity is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring that the city is well-connected, facilitating ease of access and boosting its attractiveness as a destination for both residents and businesses.

N.V.S. Reddy highlighted that the Hyderabad Metro Rail team is committed to delivering a comprehensive DPR for the Fourth City’s metro connectivity. This report will outline the proposed routes, station locations, and other critical infrastructure details that will ensure seamless integration with the existing metro network.

In a unique move to engage the public, the Chief Minister also announced that a special prize will be awarded to individuals who suggest a fitting name for the proposed Fourth City. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to involving citizens in the development of this new urban center.

Hyderabad Metro Phase II: Expanding the Network

Alongside the plans for the Fourth City, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also finalized the much-anticipated Phase II of the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR).

This 70-kilometer expansion will connect the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) from all four corners of the city through four corridors. The expanded network is expected to significantly enhance connectivity, making travel more convenient for residents and visitors alike.

The DPR for Phase II is nearing completion and will soon be submitted to the state government. Following state approval, the report will be forwarded to the central government for final approval and the formation of joint ventures.

One of the key features of this phase is its focus on ensuring that the metro network reaches the old city, thereby increasing accessibility for a larger portion of the population.

Fourth City: A Vision for Young India

The Fourth City, planned at Mucherla, is set to become a major focal point for the Congress government of Telangana. Designed to offer a conducive environment for young minds, the city will be a breeding ground for innovation and education.

The government has already acquired a large tract of land for the development of this new urban center, which will also include a state-of-the-art pharma city.

In addition to metro connectivity, the Fourth City will house a Skills University aimed at providing top-tier education and training. The government also plans to relocate the National Academy of Construction to this new city, further enhancing its reputation as a center for excellence in skill development.

These initiatives are intended to equip the youth with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful careers, both in India and abroad.

A New Era for Telangana

The announcements regarding metro connectivity and the Fourth City mark the beginning of a new era for Telangana. With a clear vision for the future and a commitment to infrastructure development, the state is poised to become a leader in urban growth and innovation. As plans move forward, the Fourth City is expected to attract significant investment and emerge as a symbol of Telangana’s aspirations for the next generation.

The public’s involvement in naming the city further underscores the government’s dedication to creating a vibrant and inclusive urban environment.

As the DPRs for both the Fourth City metro connectivity and Hyderabad Metro Phase II progress, the state awaits the central government’s approval, which will set the stage for the next phase of Telangana’s development journey.
